Cookies and tracking tools

A Cookie, also called a “connection token,” belongs to the family of trackers. It is a text file placed in a dedicated area of your computer or mobile device when you visit a website or application. This Cookie file can only be read by its issuer.

A Cookie allows, for the duration of its validity, the recognition of the computer or mobile device you are using each time you access our website.

Today, there are other types of trackers as well. For example, the invisible pixel, also known as a transparent GIF or action tag. It is a small snippet of code that appears as a tiny image on a web page. It can recognize the time and date of a page view and collect technical data such as your IP address or device configuration.

Witik informs you about how we use Cookies and trackers, and your rights in managing them, in accordance with:

  • The ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC, amended in 2009

  • Law No. 78-17 of January 6, 1978, on Information Technology, Files, and Freedoms

  • The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) EU 2016/679

  • CNIL’s guidelines of September 17, 2020, on cookies and other trackers

French and European law regulates the use of trackers. Article 82 of the 1978 Data Protection Act states that cookies and trackers must not be placed or read without the user’s prior consent, unless they are strictly necessary for providing a service expressly requested by the user, or if their sole purpose is to enable or facilitate communication by electronic means. This article reflects Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive.

Furthermore, the use of trackers is subject to certain provisions of the GDPR, especially when the trackers and collected data can identify you.

In France, the CNIL issues recommendations and guidelines. You can view their official guidance on cookies and trackers here.

Our Technical Cookies and Trackers

Witik uses technical cookies and trackers that are essential for accessing and operating the site correctly. They enable:

  • Storing your cookie preferences

  • Protecting the site from spam

  • Defending against denial-of-service attacks

  • Counting site visits

  • Displaying icons and visual elements

The legal basis for the data processing performed by these cookies is Witik’s legitimate interest in ensuring access to and proper functioning of the website.

Recipients of the data collected by technical cookies are strictly authorized Witik team members and its service providers involved in maintenance, hosting, and operations. Data may also be disclosed to competent authorities or regulated professionals (auditors, legal experts, etc.) if required by law.

You can set your browser to block these cookies, but essential features of the website may not function correctly. These technical cookies do not require your consent as they are necessary for proper site operation. They are stored for no longer than the end of your session.

Our Analytics Cookies and Trackers

Witik uses audience measurement cookies and trackers to monitor site traffic and understand how users navigate the website.

We use Matomo Analytics, configured according to CNIL guidance to avoid requiring visitor consent. Matomo is open-source and has been reviewed by a large community to ensure data security and privacy.

These trackers allow us to:

  • Measure traffic on each page

  • Track referral sources (internal/external)

  • List device types, browsers, and screen sizes used

  • Monitor page load times

  • Analyze time spent, bounce rates, and scroll depth

  • Record user actions (clicks, selections)

  • Determine geographic origin of visits

The legal basis is Witik’s legitimate interest in analyzing traffic and improving the website.

Recipients of data collected by analytics trackers are strictly authorized Witik teams. Transfers to authorities may occur if required by law or regulation. Data is retained for no longer than 25 months.

You may opt out of audience tracking at any time using the button below. This tracking is 100% anonymized and used solely to improve site performance, never for advertising or profiling.

Our Advertising Cookies and Trackers

Witik uses advertising cookies and trackers to identify which audiences visited the site, and from which campaigns (LinkedIn, Facebook, Bing, Google).

Witik only accesses pseudonymized data, not directly identifying data. If the visitor consents and uses a contact form, their source will be logged.

Legal basis: your consent. You may withdraw it at any time via our cookie settings.

Data recipients include authorized Witik teams and advertising platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Google). Transfers outside the EU may occur under their respective privacy policies and standard contractual clauses:

Cookies are stored for up to 13 months, and submitted form data is retained for up to 3 years after the last contact.

Our Commercial Personalization Cookies and Trackers

Witik uses personalization cookies (including a chatbot) to improve interactions with the sales team.

If the visitor consents and fills out a contact form, their browsing history and chatbot discussions will be linked to the submitted data.

Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Data recipients include Witik’s authorized teams and HubSpot, which may transfer data outside the EU. HubSpot’s privacy policy includes relevant safeguards.

Cookies are stored for up to 13 months, and contact data for 3 years from the last interaction. This allows segmentation to tailor content based on user behavior.

Managing Cookies and Trackers

Cookies and trackers are placed only with your consent.

You can give or refuse consent by:

  • Clicking “Accept” or “Refuse” in the cookie banner

  • Adjusting your preferences via “Customize” in the cookie manager

You can change your settings anytime using the floating cookie manager accessible from any page (usually at the bottom left of your screen).
